I have noticed alot of covers being made now days. i have also noticed alot of people saying how much they love that band for writing that song when they dont even know that it was a cover. I really dont endorce ever doing a cover of an already hit song, it just doesnt seem fair to the original artist that worked so on writing the song just to have another band take the fame they had. then i realized that even some covers are good songs such as blinded by the light by manfred mann. but now and days there is a big debate wether the original is better, or the cover. what are your opinions if you arent sure i make some examples;
come together The Beatles vs. Aerosmith
you really got me The Kinks vs. Van Halen
blinded by the light Bruce Springsteen vs. Manfred Mann
land of confusion Genesis vs. Disturbed
What are you opinions on some of these songs and/or on cover songs in general?

I am a fan of some cover songs while I dislike others. A couple of the ones you listed above are pretty good. I am quite a big fan of Guns n' Roses covers, they did a few of them. They even did a whole album dedicated to covers and I really like it. My current favorite cover song would have to be 'Wicked Game' by H.I.M., they did a really great job on that, a lot of people seem to like it. It's heavier and faster compared to Chris Isaak's version. _________________

It's totally fair to the original artists, as they have to give permission for the song to be recorded. It is illegal to release a song you didn't write, and don't have permission to release.
Metallica done a two CD album of covers, and in my opinion it contains all of their best recordings ever. I believe Whiskey In The Jar is the best song they ever recorded. And it's just an Irish Folk song, so it's perfectly legal to record and distribute it.
