Tidus - Whiny and Annoying?

A lot of people seem to dislike Tidus because he seems to be whiny, whimpy and annoying. Who here thinks he is all that and more? I really don't see why people can hate him that much, I didn't think he was that bad! I thought he was an alright main character, not the best but still pretty cool. Sure, I suppose he was a bit whiny at times but that never really got to me in any way. He was an interesting main character who went through and awful lot. It was very emotional for him and I felt sorry for him a lot of the time.

So, what are your thoughts on Tidus? was he annoying or did you think he was an awesome main character? :D

Honestly I didn't found Tidus such a bad character, in fact he was not bad at all. A little self centered with an oversized ego, but hey aren't many of the previous FF main characters the same as him somehow? His sword is cool and his limit is quite good, no more than a Renzokuken or an Omnislash, but good enough to be respected by me.

I didn't like Tidus at all. First off, he doesn't have a cool name. P:
Additionally, he cried an awful lot. That's not cool. If I was Auron, I would have personally slapped Tidus upside the head every time he did something girly. Then again, if he did that, what else would he have time for? Smile

:roll: sorry about that....maybe he cries a little too much but hes a blitzball star!!!! And has Auron as his friend....(dads friend but its all the same)....And he even said "This is my story!".....wt can be cooler than that???....and he risks his life to save Yuna....and....saved the world.....And he even have feelings....(not everyone has....)....sincerly i think hes not only an awesome main character as hes the best main character of all games i ever played....

Iv never had a problem with the charachters of ffx, even Tidus. I suppose a messed up childhood made him who we see or who we were made to believe we see. He did seem a bit whiney tho. lol

I think he cops a fair bit of whack that he doesn't deserve. He's not a favourite character of mine, but I have to stand up for him.

He does come accross as a bit whiny, but I think it's really needed in the story, to act as a foil to other characters. If he was different this would have significant impact on characters such as Auron and Lulu, to some extent even Wakka, and of course Yuna. He's needed as he is.

Earnest

Tidus was a solid hero. When you see poor main characters like Yuna, FFX-2 and Vaan, FF12, to remember Tidus as the last decent hero is a pleasant memory.

A little annoying "Let's go get sin" and his voice was really american, but like, he does have a pretty great personality. He cares for Yuna a hell of a lot more than Vaan does for Ashe.

A succsessful character. 7/10.

A note on Vaan from FFXII. I found the game a lot more playable if you didn't think of any of the main characters as the real protagonist, and if any, Balthier or Ashe. Vaan has very very little to do with the real storyline and has little to offer in terms of anything except battle. I think it's just that we're meant to see it from his point of view. A kid grown up in the slums. Balthier says himself on _so_ many occassions "I'm the leading man".

Onto Tidus. Tidus himself is, excuse me, a bit 'faggy', if you know what I mean. I get kind of embarassed watching the scenes he's in if my friends are around sometimes. But overall I think he's a good solid character. His storyling is solid, and his personality can get annoying, but it's VERY easy to see how crucial his attitude is to the storyline. I'd say a 6/10 or 7/10 hero if Cecil Harvey or Cloud Strife are 10/10 (My two favourite protagonists ever ^_^).
